Well they sat us down today and just told us, start the writing process for your personal narrative essay. I was stupified because I hadn't done any thinking yet on this bucket. But when I heard the pattering of keys all around me, something clicked and i just started writing. Within two minutes, I was on my way with my ideas. All of a sudden, there were two or three ideas in this bucket and they were clinking together. Thanks writing gurus!
I was thinking of Brad Jordan when Sherrie was saying that the journal was linked with the feminine. Brad Jordan is a gansta rapper aka Scarface. He sings about his diary and the power of writing his thoughts down. His seminal album is titled, "The Diary". Here is a sample...
Dear Diary, I'm havin' a little problem with my mind stay, how many bullets would it take to make my mind straight?
And Public Enemy states. When I get mad, I'm gettin' down with the pad...give em something that they never had.

Too true. Don't you love how music and writing go hand in hand? Lyrics can be linked to much and I find that music itself helps me to focus and develop more in my own writing. It's neat.
I was also unprepared to start my personal reflective paper. However, I was surprised at how much I was able to get written once I got started. I have a lot of ideas running through my mind and I am trying to make logical sense of everything. I am glad we were given the time and pushed into beginning.
Sometimes I am like my own students when they struggle to just get started.
Tad, I so did not have you pegged for a gansta rap appreciative. My eight year old has been quoting "Parents Just Don't Understand." Ah, the good old days.
Seriously, Tawn mentioned today that her music teacher has the kids write rap music. What a great way to incorporate poetry into the minds of eighth grade boys. I think I might try it!
I think it is pretty cool that you made that connection. I think there are other areas for me to investigate now.....thanks!
