I loved the carousel writing assignment this morning. I can not believe how quickly the time passed and how much I loved responding to everyone's topic. I feel that the paper I got back is so relevant and useful. I appreciate your comments and questions. Thanks for the help, guys!
I can't wait to try the index card literary elements thingy (OK, I really need a name for this). I think that my students will love this. I can sneak in all of the literary terms and get them excited about a book at the same time. Clever. I might also have them try to put the "puzzle pieces" in order and discuss chronological order with them, too.
The photo essays were very powerful. I can see how this could be used with the social studies teacher's history/geography lessons.

The photo essay with Jackie Glasgow was fun. I tried something similar to this with my sophomores this year. You would be amazed how creative our students can be. Even when students used the same picture, I got very different stories and points of view.
I had the same thoughts about point of view. I think it would be a great way to teach point of view, having the student write the paragraph, story, etc. in third person and then rewrite in first.

I to enjoyed the carousel writing assignment that we started off the morning with. I could not believe that we actually were writing for almost an hour. I really found that the comments were helpful and felt like I was working a topic that may be useful to others as well as myself.
I like how you were thinking of modifying the puzzle pieces to work with chronological order. This is an area that some take for granted and the children still struggle with this.
I want to say that you did a great presentation today. You didn't even appear to be nervous, but I will feel the same when my comes about! I love the games you did because it really gets the kids into the resources when they have to actually use them in a game.
Great Job:))
Your game Thesaurus activity was awesome. I plan on using it next year. It is one of our GLI's and this would be an engaging way of reviewing. Thank you. You were so clear in your directions, and I was encouraged to hear your positives comments when people had questions. Neat lesson!! Thanks again.
I think the photo activity was great. I need to make notes. I have so many things I enjoyed today that I forgot about that already. I think it would be a great activity to display maybe three or four photos and then allow the students to choose from these. This would then have different interpretations of the same scene. This could then be used for various discussions. This was a great day. Thanks Carly for the fun ideas.
