The ideas are all great.I love the hamburger theory. I think I can adjust this for my first graders, I think my students can relate to this. Little children can relate to getting a kids Happy Meal, going to McDonald's or to Burger King. etc. When you say to little children, your going to act like your writing is a hamburger, move things around, add things, remove things, substitute things, etc. I feel they can relate to this terminalogy better than the terms revise, etc. You can give the students these terms after you have done the hamburger theory for awhile,to get them ready for 2nd and third grade. I think they will be able to make the connection between the two, and it will make rewriting more fun for them.

I thought that the when we used the carousel technique, I recieved very relevant information from my peers. I have glanced at that feedback several times throughout the inquiry process.
I also enjoyed reading everyone's topic and responding to their inquiries and the responses that proceeded mine. That hour zoomed by as I became engrossed in my colleagues ideas.
My kids will enjoy this and will hopefully see it as a useful tool.

I thought that dialogic journals were awesome. The idea that you can write your thoughts about a piece of reading and then have someone reflect upon your ideas is very powerful. I think this is a great way to learn from each other. This is something that I am definitely going to share with my colleagues.

I am not really sure what Don called the activity that we did when we read the three pages of the River of Earth book. This part of the book was when Nezzie Couch came to ask mother if they were moving. Don had us use those three pages as a model and then write our own, describing the characters and setting through the dialogue. I am not sure if I will be able to use this with my elementary students yet but for me, it was great. I really enjoyed the writing process and seeing how many different avenues the author has to choose from. This activity will help me when kids are "stuck" in their writing. I will be able to encourage them to think of all of the possibilities that they can choose from now that I have experienced this activity.

Sorry, I forgot to do this activity at class today. I have been so wrapped up in this research paper. So I have enjoyed almost every part of the writing assignments we have done. Surprisingly enough I can now see benefit to the paragraph paper cutting project Sherrie had us do!! I was probably the most oppossed to it. However, when I redid my own paper I did switch a couple of thoughts around.(With the helpful suggestions from Sherrie.) I still don't think my students would ever benefit from this at their age of focusing on sequencing, but I think I can use it for my own writing. Thanks Sherrie, Talinn, and Don for envouraging us to step out of the box. I have thoroughly enjoyed these classes, but this research paper is wigging me out!
