I liked the talk about James Still that we had today. It was great to have a discussion like that and at the same time feel like I had good comprehension of the story.
Also, the writing activity made me feel like I understood the Novel much better. I will definitely remember that activity and use that in my class.
I think i'll drop by the library and put in some research time. i am definitely the caboose on this train. i'm somewhere between one and another idea. The idea I like the most is what i'm going to try and go with, depending on sources I find. I have 2-3 today.
The random thought that is going through my mind right now is a reflection of the two pieces of writing Don had us do today. THe introduction to our paper was brilliantly disguised. As I was writing this "essay" of persuasion I began thinking, "I can use this in my paper." Next thing I thought was, "That is probably what he is doing here, setting us up." So, it worked! I liked the idea of writing with one intent and then meeting a different purpose with the same writing. The second writing that Don had us do today was brilliant as well. Just reading those few pages in the novel set us up for an assignment. I don't know if others feel this way but I love when we actually "get to write." I will probably not use this method with my class becuase I teach elementary but for me as a writer, it was great. It helped me to find a voice and to convey my thoughts in a way that I did not know I could. Once again, thanks Don!
I am really learning a lot from this group, and all of you are wonderful. I look around and people are smiling and talking. It's a great feeling. I will be taking a lot of new lessons to try in my class, and I have thought about some things in a new light. I am very happy to be here with all of you!
I have also been thinking about River and Earth. I love this book and will be using it in class.
I really enjoyed the writing activity, I think it sparked a bit of creativity in me that I might actually use to finish a short story. I hope to use this to inspire my kids. I bet it would.
Also, I loved Vicki's lesson today. I love culture, I love her energy, I love the fact that she has her students experiencing the learning instead of taking notes from a lecture. I just love Vicki!!!! She did a fantastic job today! I really enjoyed the Diamonte. It was great!
Vicki's demo today was soul-enriching. As with all the teacher demos, I feel like I'm going to be a better teacher not from just writing down and later using "tricks of the trade" but from witnessing "great teaching in action."
